Agneaux!

StinkHorns

Ileodictyon cibarium is a fungus more commonly known as a Stinkhorn. When it gets wet enough, a huge slimy wiremesh polygonal form emerges from the confines of the small mushroom in a display that seems anything but natural. Maori of old thought that they were actually the dropping of ghosts.

Wobbegong Sharks

It took us about 8 months but we finally saw our first Australian shark this week! It was a 1.5 meter spotted Wobbegong Shark, sleeping under a rock. This particular specie is quite flexible and can bite the hand of divers who are harassing them by pulling their tail, which my buddy was doing at the time. Luckily for us, no bloodbath ensued and we got to see it swim away gracefully for a little while until it found another rock under which to go back to sleep.

Superficie

The story of The Kelly Gang

In 1906, Australian filmmakers decided to tell the story of Ned Kelly, famous outlaw who defied colonial authorities in the late 1800. What makes Ned Kelly stand out from the rest of the local ruffians is the metallic armor that he built for him and his crew to deflect bullets from police officer. In the 1906 movie adaptation, one of the actors wore the actual suit of armor used by the Kelly Gang, something that historians would never permit nowadays.

A SHEEPing bag!

Notes of Wisdom from Cecilia

When creating a balcony garden, it is always a good idea to incorporate a small fish pond. It can be something as simple as a dark bottomed bucked with aquatic plants in it. The fish will fertilize the water that you can then use to feed your plants. And as a plus side, people never forget to feed a fish. And once you’re there, you’ll never forget to water the plants!

Vers Melbourne

Reduce, Reuse Recycle!

Road Trains

In Canada, it's always impressive to see a truck pulling two trailers on the highways. Here, in the australian Bush, we often get to see these trucks pulling three and even four of these long trailers. These true road trains zoom at high speeds on small, one lane dirt roads, raising huge clouds of dust that remain in the air, obscuring visibility for kilometers on end. Hello safety...

Wombats!

Wombats are really weird creatures. These large marsupials have a one inch thick bone plate on their bum. They burrow their homes in the ground so that the entrance is exactly the size of their butt. When chased by dingoes, they race back home and stop right at the entrance. The bony plate acts as a door, and try as they might, the dingoes can't scratch past the bony armor, and it doesn't hurt the wombat at all.

Chasse moustique maison

-30ml d'huile d'olive
-28 goutes d'huile essentielle de citronelle
-23 goutes d'huile de Tea Tree (Mélaleuca)

Ants! Ants everywhere!

In the rainforest, there are these little ants with a green back that make their nests by sticking leaves into a ball shape directly in the trees. If you lick those ants, they taste exactly like lime. They don’t like to be licked though. They’ll try to bite you.

Whitehaven Beach

Van-Terrible

To answer the question that EVERYONE has been asking us for the past week, NO, we did not win the VanTastic contest for the Northern Territory. I know... I'm sorry. BUT, Western Australia is still up for grabs! We'll know early March! Keep your fingers crossed for the next 4 weeks! CONSTANTLY.

Almost Van-Tastic

Boooooouuuu!

Happy 2010 !

Since we've arrived in Australia, many people have asked us: "Which direction do the toilets flush over there?". The funny answer is, we don't know. Since this is the dryest continent in the world (after Antarctica), they all have these water friendly toilets everywhere. And the way they operate, they just flush DOWN. No circular motion. Sorry.
